From the preface: "The greater part of the hymns contained in the former selection are retained in this, and several from Wesley's and Coke's collections, not before published in this country, are added. The principal improvements which have been made, consist in restoring those which had been altered, as was believed for the worse, to their original state, as they came from the poetical pen of the Wesleys; for the following hymns were, except a few which have been taken from other authors, composed by the Rev. John and Charles Wesley..." Preface signed (i.e., printed) by Robert R. Roberts, Joshua Soule, Elijah Hedding, James O. Andrew. From Notice: "In this improved edition of the Methodist Hymnbook, the tunes adapted to the hymns, and contained in the Methodist Harmonist, are named at the head of each hymn, together with the page of the Harmonist at which the tune may be found..."

Bound full calf, rebacked with heavy Canson acid-free brown paper and printed title label, scotch tape remains on front cover, leather rubbed & scuffed, worn through leather at 3 corners, strip of acid-free archival paper pasted over each inside hinge, 1 start, lacks rear free endpaper, light to medium foxing--heavier on endpapers & first & last few pages, blue ink scribbling over lower half of p12 making it hard to read, some dog-ears, pp148-149 & 154-155 soiled.
