The greatest portion of these stories consists of an account of the writer's experiences during a world tours including Japan, China, India, Ceylon and the Holy Land, with a few devotional stories from the author's life in Dayton, Ohio. Susan Louela Winters (1842-1940) was the wife of Jonathan Winters and daughter-in-law of Valentine Winters both of the Winters National Bank, Dayton, Ohio. Jonathan and his wife Susan and their three children took an around the world trip from August 1882 to August 1883, travelling extensively throughout Asia, the Middle East, Northern Africa, and Europe. Susan Winters had met Jennie Smith many years previously when Miss Smith was destitute and confined to her wheeled bed for 16 years. They became life long friends. The book is dedicated to Jennie Smith and has a 5pp introduction re her. Jennie Smith (b1842) is best known as the Methodist railroad evangelist. (17603)
